SMP Cup Champions Again!!!

The Smithers Steelheads are Sullivan Motor Products (SMP) Cup Champions again this year, two years in a row!

Game 1 of the best of 3 series against Williams Lake saw a closely fought game with lots of speed and talent displayed. At the end of 60 minutes the game was knotted at 2 – 2 and overtime was required. Approximately 10 minutes into the extra frame Williams Lake scored with a nice shot beating Michael Wall making the final score 3-2 for Williams Lake.

Game 2 was in Smithers and saw improved play by the Steelheads who had their most complete roster to the year. Williams Lake scored first but Smithers continued to play hard with relentless pressure on the Stampeders resulting in a 6-3 Steelheads victory.

Game 3 was required for the series and the Steelheads continued their strong play from the day before. The determined and talented Williams Lake team continued to give the Steelheads a good battle but the home team was too much for the Stampeders again and the final score was 7-3, steelheads win the SMP Cup.

On hand to present the SMP Cup to Smithers captain Darryl Young were Bill & John Sullivan. The MVP of the CIHL playoffs was awarded to Smithers Steelheads forward – Ian Smith

Steelheads Contend for Championship

The Steelheads had a convincing 5-1 win over the Kitimat Ice Demons on Saturday, February 16th at the Smithers Civic Centre.

This win puts the Steelies into the final round of the playoffs where they will face the Williams Lake Stampeders.

The winner of this series will earn the right to host the Sullivan Motor Products (SMP) Cup as the 2012/2013 Central Interior Hockey League (CIHL) Playoff Champions.

The first game in the best of 3 series will be in Williams Lake Saturday, February 23rd and games 2 & 3 in Smithers Saturday, March 2nd (7:30pm) and Sunday, March 3rd (1:30pm) if needed.
